Introduction

Many people believe that using your voice to earn a living must be a really easy job.
This is far from the truth, as voice acting is perhaps one of the most misunderstood occupations. It is not just being able to read aloud (although this is very important.) It is about being able to shape the sound of your voice, being aware of its sound, and interpreting the script as the writer intended. It’s about being able to take direction, how and when to breathe, how to develop and maintain character voices and accents, and how to touch people emotionally with your voice.

Course Details

Our Voice School has been designed to give an insight into the mysterious world of voice-acting as an industry.
This intensive weekend course will teach the pre-requisites and techniques which will give you the edge when entering the industry.
It also gives those already in the industry a refreshed view of their skills and offers new techniques to improve their performance.

The course is highly practical, with a 1:1 ratio of theory time to practical ‘in-studio’ time. Whenever we learn something in the classroom, we take it straight into the studio to put it into practice. The studio facilities are first-class, with new state of the art equipment.

Curriculum:

•    You will meet a creative commercial writer who will explain the different types of scripts that can be written and why they need to be read in a particular style.

•    Learn about microphone techniques from a professional studio engineer. He will also provide answers to questions on studio etiquette and how to pace the "read" to the required time.

•    Review voices and commercials from around the world. Why are great commercials great? Usually, it’s the voice artist who ‘makes’ an ad.

•    Listen to guest professional voice actors discussing accents, character voices and pronunciation.

•    Look at ways of staying healthy and keeping your voice strong. You'll receive exercises to improve your speech and to limber up before any recording job.

•    Throughout the duration of the course you will be working in the world-class recording studios of The Voice Booth. The classes will be limited to only six people to maximize your time in the studio.

•    Upon successful completion you'll receive a sample CD
of your recorded work, and a digital disc with all printed material and your practice voice takes.

This Voice Over School can not guarantee that you will succeed as a full time voice actor, but you will learn basic skills that will assist you in getting your foot in the door.
It is hard work, but for those who do become successful the rewards are there.
